Ab Anfang Oktober startet das österreichische Klima-Volksbegehren um Klimaschutz in der Verfassung zu verankern.

Der neue Klimacheck soll dazu führen, dass geplante Gesetzesvorhaben gemeinsam mit der Wissenschaft auf ihre Auswirkungen für das Klima und die Natur überprüft werden müssen – mit konkreten Konsequenzen, transparent und nachvollziehbar für die Bevölkerung. Einerseits würden die weitreichenden Folgen der Vorhaben für alle klar ersichtlich. Andererseits müssten Großprojekte, die beim Klimacheck durchfallen, gestoppt, grundlegend verändert oder durch eine klimafreundliche Lösung ersetzt werden.
Die bisherigen Folgenabschätzungen sind zahnlos und lückenhaft. Daher fordern wir scharfe Kontrollen sowie die verpflichtende Vorlage von Konsequenzen und Alternativen, wenn die wissenschaftlich und politisch vereinbarten Schwellenwerte verletzt werden.

Hitzeperioden, Dürre, Hochwasser, Murenabgänge und Artensterben sind bereits jetzt allgegenwärtig! Wir fordern daher die zukünftige Regierung auf, den Klimaschutz endlich ernst zu nehmen und entsprechende Maßnahmen zu setzen. Wir haben noch 10 Jahre – doch bereits die nächsten fünf Regierungsjahre sind entscheidend!
